The Minister of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, HE Jama Taqal, officially opened and chaired a high-level meeting between Ministry of Energy & Water Resources and Water Sector Donor Working Groups...

After several side meetings with different donors, which is aimed at supporting the government initiative towards establishing a joint Government, Donor, and Development Partners Water Sector Investment Coordination Group to support the realization of the targets within National Water Resources Strategy. The Minister shared with the donors the government's vision for addressing critical water challenges and emphasized the importance of water for state building, economic growth, and social wellbeing. He also urged that emergency programs cannot address the current challenges, so there is a need to focus on developmental water programs while responding to the current humanitarian issues to reduce the risks, improve livelihoods and enhance the resilience of the vulnerable communities across the country. During the meetings, the donors committed to supporting the government's strategy and initiative for establishing the water sector coordination facility, providing an opportunity to put together a sector-wide strategic plan to frame water sector governance and development. The Director General of Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, Mr. Abdirizak Mohamed, also thanked the donors for their commitment to funding the implementation of the National Water Resources Strategy and accentuated double their efforts by supporting the Ministry's goal of National water sector development and management through the implementation of developmental water projects. The Director of Hydrometeorology and lead person for the implementation of National Water Resources Strategy, Ahmed Mohamed Hassan, together with other technical experts of Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, presented the water sector governance framework which focuses on advancing developmental solutions of Somalia's water resources for accelerated growth and wellbeing of the country and support developing joint water sector development initiatives to end flood and drought emergencies while coordinating water programs and investments to ensure they comply with sectoral strategies and avoid overlaps of interventions, duties, and responsibilities.
