The Department of Energy in the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources in Somalia plays a crucial role in the development, regulation, and management of the energy sector in the country. This department is responsible for overseeing the various aspects of the energy industry, both renewable and non-renewable, with a focus on ensuring access to reliable and sustainable energy sources for the Somali population.
The Somalia component of the GW4R project is titled Abaar-Tir, a US$30 million operation that will support the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Somaliland, specifically engaging the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources (MoEWR), and the Federal Member States of Galmudug, Hirshabele, Jubaland, Puntland and South-West States, and Somaliland.
The Project is overseen by a Project Steering Committee (PSC), a multi-partner working committee convened with the purpose of guiding and overseeing the Somalia Crisis Recovery Project (SCRP). The PSC is composed of the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), Ministry of Finance (MOF), Ministry of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development (MoPIED) as permanent members with adhoc membership by relevant FMS MoPIED.
